Current Information:Born-Marylebone Enlisted-London
On 31st March, 1915, the 1st Middlesex battalion of 19 Brigade, then with 6th Division, moved into trenches running from Touquet to Rue du Bois near Armentières where they remained until relieved on 8th April. On 9th April when, according to records Alfred Beechey lost his life, 1st Middlesex were in billets in Gris Pot and there is no mention in the battalion diary of any casualties. That he is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial to the Missing suggests that he was killed in action which means that either the date of his death was incorrectly recorded or that he was temporarily attached to another unit. |
